GRANT ALLOCATIONS

Press Release

Lenox Garden Club

November 15, 2021

The Lenox Garden just announced that grant applications for project funding in 2022 will be due on December 31, 2021.  Grants will be awarded in the spring of 2022.

Grants  are awarded to public or private not-for-profit organizations undertaking specific projects in and around Berkshire County.  The project must pertain to gardens, civic beautification, environmental restoration, conservation or education.

Last year, in light of the Covid pandemic and resulting food insecurity issues, we changed our focus and awarded a $5,000 grant to Berkshire Bounty in Great Barrington.  In 2019, we awarded two grants for civic beautification/planting projects, one in Pittsfield and one in Lee:  $3,570 to Pittsfield Beautiful, Inc. to restore two public garden spaces; and $2,500 to Berkshire Gateway Preservation to complete the installation of thyme edged marble pavers surrounding a restored Daniel Chester French-designed marble fountain, located in the municipal park at the entrance to downtown Lee.

If your organization is interested in applying for funds, grant application guidelines are available at www.lenoxgardenclub.net (click on “Community” on the Home Page) or by contacting Lenore Sundberg, chair of the Lenox Garden Club’s Project Review Committee, via email at plsundberg@roadrunner.com or by letter at P.O. Box 684, Stockbridge, MA 01262.  The application deadline is December 31, 2021.

Lenox Garden Club Requirements for Grant Applications

The Lenox Garden Club grants funds to public or private not-for-profit organizations undertaking specific projects in and around Berkshire County.  The project must pertain to gardens, civic beautification, environmental restoration, conservation or education.

Grant applications must include the following:

1.)     Name and address of the organization seeking funding.

2.)      A brief history of the organization. Please include:

-          When established

-          Evidence of non-profit status

-          Organizational structure and current list of board members

-          Most recent financial statement and information on endowment or restricted funds

3.)     A description of the funding request, explaining the nature of the project and its objectives.  If the project requires a blueprint or plan, indicate if the plan is completed.  If municipality approval is required, indicate if this has been obtained. Please include:

4.)          -    Amount requested

-          Projected budget

-          All additional sources of funding for the project

-          Timetable for completion

-          Plans for future maintenance of the project

-          How the project will enhance the life of the community in which it is located and how many individuals will benefit from the project

-          How the Lenox Garden Club will be recognized for underwriting the project

A member of the Lenox Garden Club Executive Committee or Projects Review Committee may contact you for additional information or to set up an interview.

If your project is awarded a grant, the Lenox Garden Club will require a written report on the project and how the funds were dispersed.  You may be asked to give a final presentation to the Club’s membership at one of its regular meetings.  Suitable recognition of the Club’s funding must be incorporated into the project.  The grant should be included in the organization’s annual report.

If the project is not completed in a timely fashion, the Lenox Garden Club reserves the right to ask that the funds be returned.

The Lenox Garden Club will generally not undertake further commitment to a project once it is completed. Any further maintenance related to the project is the responsibility of the organization and not that of the Lenox Garden Club.

Applications must be submitted by December 31st to the chair of the Projects Review Committee: Lenore Sundberg, P.O. Box 684, Stockbridge, MA 01262 (plsundberg@roadrunner.com).

Grants are awarded at the discretion of the Lenox Garden Club in April or May of the next year.
